Children’s Day: Little Sprouts, Big Ideas

The first big event that A Book a Day held when I joined them was a very special Children’s Day, partnered with the Free Library of Philadelphia. The preparation for this project took a long time and my designs were a big part of it.
I came up with the sub title “Little Sprouts, Big Ideas” and started developing our visual language with the logo.

The following slides were used in Eventbrite page, as well as published on A Book a Day website.

Another crucial part of the marketing campaign was free bookmark, distributed in bookshops and in the Free Library, that I also designed around my illustration. When drawing it I started from the idea of “little” vs “big” from the subtitle. It got me into thinking small but might some things are and I first cam up with “Small Friends, Big Lunch” illustration that was used in bookmark and later I “cut” the watermelon in half to make the sticker version (see below).

Same illustration was used to make a coloring page. It can also be downloaded here and printed for personal use.

Along with the slides I designed a stickers set, that were handed out to people attending the event. The illustrations got so popular, they even got turned into temporary tattoos. The idea for ladybug also came from subtitle idea of “small but mighty” and reading sprouts are more direct interpretation of the subtitle. Throughout all illustrations I was consistent in colored pencil drawing style, to keep it light, fun, colorful and friendly.

Temporary tattoos had an addition to them in form of 2 extra illustrations, in the same theme of nature. My goal was to make them adult-like, so that kids would want to wear them, and as accurately depicted as possible.

University Posters

During my last year at the UPenn I worked in the Russian and Eastern European Department and created multiple posters for professors to advertise their classes and other initiatives held in the department.
